Course Overview
Introductions
We kick off with everyone sharing their interests and background in firearms. This helps me tailor the course to suit each student’s experience level and keep a supportive and inclusive environment right from the start.
Handgun Fundamentals
We dive into how pistols and ammunition work and the essentials of choosing a concealed carry weapon. Through practical examples, students learn to select the right firearm and ammunition, focusing on safety and effectiveness for self-defense.
Practical Handling and Safety
We cover everything from loading techniques to the golden rules of firearm safety. With hands-on practice, students learn how to grip a firearm, how to stand, aim and fire, as well as the mechanics of what to do after firing so that students are fully prepared to handle a firearm confidently and safely before going to the live-fire range.
Real-World Application
At the range, preparation becomes practice. Under close guidance, students navigate through simulated scenarios, applying learned techniques in a controlled, safe environment. This session is crucial for building real-world competence. We offer the very best range instruction in Michigan for new CPL applicants.
Deep Legal Segment
Back in the classroom, we cover the legalities of concealed carry, focusing on responsible practices, the importance of situational awareness, de-escalation and navigating post self-defense scenarios, with guidance from the USCCA. This segment is designed to allow for all your questions to be answered, and to equip students with the knowledge to carry and protect themselves while being in compliance with the law.
Field Strip and Resassembly
We go through a practical session on maintaining your firearm, where students learn to disassemble and reassemble pistols. This knowledge is vital for firearm upkeep and safety, and ensures you're familiar with every aspect of your weapon.
Certification
The course concludes with a review and assessment of the day's lessons which includes a straightforward test. At the end you'll receive your certification and learn the steps necessary to file with your county and receive your CPL. This marks your readiness to carry responsibly and safely.
